Education and Approaches

Reza Eskandari is a Registered Psychotherapist and Internationally Trained Psychiatrist, with more than 20 years of experience in mental health, psychotherapy, academic teaching, and clinical leadership. He works with adults, couples, and families, with a particular focus on couples counselling, trauma, attachment difficulties, anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, emotional regulation, and life transitions.

He helps partners strengthen communication, rebuild trust, resolve recurring conflicts, improve emotional intimacy, and navigate challenges related to parenting, cultural differences, infidelity, separation, and major life changes. Drawing on the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Imago Relationship Therapy, attachment theory, and evidence-based behavioural approaches, he helps couples understand the patterns that keep them stuck and develop healthier ways to connect and resolve conflict.

Reza also has extensive experience working with individuals recovering from childhood adversity, complex trauma, family conflict, migration-related stress, and other difficult life experiences. His trauma-informed approach emphasizes emotional safety, resilience, self-compassion, and the development of practical coping skills that promote lasting psychological well-being.

His therapeutic style integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed interventions, mindfulness-based psychotherapy, psychodynamic principles, and solution-focused approaches. Every treatment plan is tailored to each client's unique goals, strengths, and circumstances.

Before becoming a Registered Psychotherapist in Canada, Reza practised psychiatry for many years in clinical and academic settings, serving as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry, clinical supervisor, and mental health service leader. He also completed postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and has authored more than 45 peer-reviewed publications in psychiatry and mental health.

Reza offers culturally responsive, evidence-based care that helps individuals and couples build healthier relationships, overcome emotional challenges, and create meaningful, lasting change.
