Newcomer Mental Wellness Program

Better Life Counselling Center (BLCC), in partnership with Culture Link, offers the Newcomer Mental Wellness Program — a free, short-term counselling service for eligible newcomers, immigrants, permanent residents, and convention refugees. Available to youth ages 15–17 and adults 18+, this program provides culturally informed, confidential support to help individuals adjust to life in Canada. Our trained clinicians serve clients across Toronto, North York, Richmond Hill, and the Greater Toronto Area with care tailored to diverse newcomer experiences.

What Is the Newcomer Mental Wellness Program?

The Newcomer Mental Wellness Program is a free, short-term counselling initiative that provides 4 complimentary sessions to help newcomers manage emotional, social, and cultural challenges during the settlement process.

This program is designed to help individuals:

  • Adjust to life in Canada

  • Manage stress, anxiety, or overwhelm

  • Navigate cultural changes and identity shifts

  • Cope with past trauma or difficult migration experiences

  • Build resilience and emotional well-being

  • Strengthen relationships and family dynamics during resettlement

The focus is on providing early support to prevent stress from becoming overwhelming and to help newcomers thrive in their new environment.

Who Is Eligible?

This program is open to:

  • Permanent Residents

  • Convention Refugees

  • Protected Persons

  • Newcomers and immigrants who meet the program criteria

  • Youth ages 15–17

  • Adults 18+

Eligibility will be confirmed during intake.

Who Can Benefit?

The Newcomer Mental Wellness Program can support individuals experiencing:

  • Stress and anxiety related to migration and settlement

  • Separation from family or community support

  • Isolation, homesickness, or cultural adjustment challenges

  • Depression, low mood, or emotional distress

  • Trauma related to pre-migration or post-migration experiences

  • Family or relationship strain during the transition

  • Identity, belonging, or cultural integration concerns

  • Academic or work-related stress in a new environment

Support is available whether someone is newly arrived or still adjusting months later.
