What is Emotion-focused therapy?

EFT is often used in both couples therapy and during individual therapy. This type of therapy allows individuals and/or couples to accept emotions, express and control them.  EFT allows individuals to learn to express emotions. In opposition couples EFT allows couples to express their emotions which in turn allows them to repair the broken bond. 

Why might this approach be used?

EFT basic principle encompasses trying to come to the conclusion of the present instead of leaving the past behind. This type of therapy allows individuals/couples to express and regulate their emotions. It allows clients to understand the relationship between their emotions and behaviours.

This approach may be used with Individuals suffering from depression, childhood abuse, anxiety, eating disorders and interpersonal disorders also may seek out EFT. Furthermore, EFT may also be used also during couples therapy.

How to get started

The first step would be to book a consultation with one of our therapists trained in this method. The therapist will then consider your symptoms, treatment history and therapy goals. During the therapy, the therapist will observe the couple/ individual and work with them to resolve presenting issues and challenges
